Enjoy the small things, like Dandelions
This one isn't about the app.
This one is about you.
I know how it feels right now.
Gas prices are brutal. Groceries costs are like rent or a mortgage payment now. The news is loud and heavy and relentless. The bills don't care that you're tired. The world feels like it's moving too fast and falling apart at the same time.
I feel it too. More than I let on most weeks.
But here's what I keep coming back to. None of that is the whole story. Not even close.
The whole story looks more like this.
The sunrise this morning. The way the light hits the grass when it's still wet. The smell of fresh-cut grass on a Saturday. Kids laughing somewhere down the street. The sound of a sprinkler running in the early morning before the world wakes up.
Root beer floats. Ice cream that drips before you can catch it. A long car ride with the windows down and country music doing exactly what country music is supposed to do. Baseball. Softball. Golf. Tennis. The sound of a bat connecting with a ball. Hot dogs, beer, the smell of barbecues.
Yellow dandelions that nobody planted. Flowers that showed up anyway just to be beautiful.
A slow boat ride going nowhere in particular. Roller blading. Skateboarding. Riding a bike like you did when you were ten and had nowhere to be. Water skiing. The moment right before you get up on the skis, when everything is chaos, and then suddenly it isn't.
Smiles from strangers. Rodeos. The smell of sunscreen. A sunset that stops you mid-sentence because it’s nostalgic.
Waking up. That alone is the miracle.
You are the miracle.
Whether you believe in God or the universe or something you haven't found a name for yet, something extraordinary had to happen for you to be here. To be seen. To be heard. To taste and feel and love and dance and laugh and get frustrated and try again.
You are not a background character in someone else's story. You are the whole point.
Memorial Day weekend is a time to honor the people who gave everything so we could have the freedom to slow down and feel all of it. The big things and the small things. The root beer floats and the sunsets and the dandelions and the kids laughing down the street.
Don't let the noise steal that from you. Not this weekend. Not ever.
Money is tight. Life is heavy. Keep going anyway.
I'm stressed too. It’s like I’m treading water and barely keeping my head above water. It’s the opposite feeling I’m chasing, so I just keep going. You have to keep going.
I have creative ideas flowing faster than I can catch them, and an app I'm racing to finish and a launch date that's getting closer every single day.
But, I still stopped to notice the sunset last night when the moon was a crescent sliver with a bright planet accompanying it like they were friends. It was pretty inspiring.
Uplyft exists for exactly this reason. Not just to send messages to your kids before the game. But to remind every tired parent, every stretched-thin human who’s grinding through a hard season, that the good stuff is still out there. It's right outside your door. You just need to look.
The momentum is here. for you and for me.
Enjoy your life. You earned it just by showing up.
Happy Memorial Day.
Brad
